Yesterday’s EUobserver has a concise and well-written piece on some of the issues which will need addressing as part of the EU’s accession to the European Convention on Human Rights. This is a topic which is likely to receive a lot of academic attention over the coming months.
Having heard the debate in the European Parliament onTuesday I was under the (false) impression that the Parliament was going to vote on Wednesday whether the EU was going to adhere as an entity(international organization?) to the ECHR. Apparently as the EUobserver wrote the Parliament drew a negotiating mandate for accession to be approved by all member states-obviously according to the constitutional provisions of each-that might mean a referendum in some countries?
