International Law Observer welcomes a new author

We are very glad to welcome Fozia Nazir Lone as a new author on International Law Observer. Fozia was recently appointed as an Assistant Professor at the City University of Hong Kong. She successfully completed her PhD without any corrections on ‘Restoration of Historical Title and the Kashmir Question: An International Legal Appraisal’ from the University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK).  Her thesis takes an interdisciplinary approach and unifies the areas of law, politics, policy and archival history.  For this study she was awarded funding by the CB Davidson Scholarship in the years 2005 to 2008 to assist her with the completion of this research.  She also secured funding from the Carnegie Trust and the Small Grants Fund (University of Aberdeen, 2007) to complete the archival research in the British Library (London, UK), the National Archives at Kew (London, UK), the National Archives of India (Delhi, India) and the State Archives of Jammu and Kashmir (Srinagar and Jammu Repository, Kashmir, India).  She has now started the process of publishing her thesis as a book. 

Having tutored Public International Law during her PhD, she is also an Honorary Research Assistant at the University of Aberdeen.  She is working on a project titled ‘Palestine and Kashmir: A Failure of nerve at the End of Imperial Administration.  For this research she recently secured funding from the Carnegie Trust.  She has extensively published in the reputed journals and newspapers.  Her forthcoming publications include ‘The Creation Story of Kashmiri People: The Right to Self-Determination Perspective’ (Denning Law Journal, 2009 Vol. 21 pp 1-25) and ‘From ‘Sale to Accession Deed’ – Scanning the Historiography of Kashmir 1846-1947’ (History Compass, 2009).  She holds a LLB (2000-03) from the Kashmir University, where she secured highly acclaimed second top position in the University.  She completed her LLM in ‘Criminal Justice and Human Rights’ (2004-05) from the University of Aberdeen with Commendation.  Before coming to the United Kingdom for her higher studies she was a practicing advocate in India.
