Guest post: On the occasion of the second anniversary of International Law Observer

On the occasion of the second anniversary of this blog, we are glad to welcome Professor Kevin Jon Heller as a guest contributor. For all those of us who follow the international law related blogosphere, Kevin should be known as a diligent and all-round contributor to the blog Opinio Juris. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at Melbourne Law School, teaching criminal law, comparative criminal law, and international criminal law.  He has also been involved in the International Criminal Court’s negotiations over the crime of aggression, served as Human Rights Watch’s external legal advisor on the trial of Saddam Hussein, and consulted with the defense in a number of cases at the ICTY and ICTR. He is currently serving as one of Radovan Karadzic’s Registry-appointed legal associates

Shortly on the occasion: it was two years ago, on April 6, 2007, that this blog opened its doors with its first post (back then in German), a comment on the so-called “Berlin Declaration” of March 24, 2007, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty establishing the European Community. Since early 2007 the International Law Observer has grown considerably counting by now more than 100,000 visitors to the website. We hope that we throughout these two years have been able to contribute with some interesting and thought provoking comments and insights from the broad field of international law. The current team of authors feels that the feedback and the reception of the blog has turned out to be beyond the wildest expectations that we (could have) had two years ago. At this point we would like to extend a great thank you to all our readers and hope that you will stay with us for the next two years as well.

Kevin the floor is yours!
