Here is an interesting story on the attempt of a Sudanese government minister to travel abroad despite his indictment by the ICC. As the Sudan Tribune reports Ahmed Mohamed Haroun, minister of state for humanitarian affairs, made an attempt to fly to Saudi Arabia in order to participate in an annual Islamic pilgrimage.
As already noted in the article of the Sudan Tribune, Saudi Arabia has not ratified the Rome Statute; however, since the situation in Darfur has been declared “to constitute a threat to international peace and security” by the United Nations Security Council (see Res. 1593 of 31 march 2005) and since the Security Council furthermore referred the situation in Darfur to the prosecutor of the ICC urging “all States and concerned regional and other international organizations to cooperate fully”, Ahmed Mohamed Haroun was probably well advised not to take the journey. Who knows, the final destination might have changed at short notice …
