Since I attended the International Criminal Court Summer School myself, I feel particularly pleased to make the following announced, on behalf of Rhonda Ferguson, for this year’s edition of this excellent summer course:
The Irish Centre for Human Rights is pleased to announce the eleventh annual International Criminal Court Summer School to take place June 18-22, 2012. The course will cover all important aspects of the work of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is one of the most important international institutions and promises to play a leading role in efforts to promote international justice. Subjects covered by the course will include the subject matter jurisdiction of the court (war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression), rules of procedure and evidence, modes of liability, corporate crimes, the prosecution of gender crimes, and related questions of international criminal law. The course is suitable for legal scholars and practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge of the court as well as social scientists and students who seek to gain some familiarity with the court. Every year we have a diverse group of participants from many countries and backgrounds.
The course is convened by the Irish Centre for Human Rights, a leading centre for human rights research, teaching, and advocacy and will be taught by prominent scholars and practitioners of international criminal law. The provisional program may be viewed at

The location of the course is in Galway, a charming small city on the windy west coast of Ireland. Galway is known for its pubs and beaches and is also adjacent to the iconic Aran Islands and Connemara. The course will include a programme of lectures as well as a film screening, social events, and touristic activities such as a trip to the Aran Islands.
